Unconscious bias: what it means and what we can do about it @ Blick Rothenberg
Feb 6 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Fully booked, but we are operating a wait list on eventbrite

Kate Dodd, Diversity and Inclusion Consultant at Brook Graham, will explore with us the fascinating topic of unconscious bias – explaining what it is and how, if left unchecked, it can hamper the careers of talented women. Very few people deliberately set out to exclude, and most will not recognise bias in themselves
or others.

Kate will help us to recognise situations where we are most ‘at risk’ of unconscious bias, and help us to understand how to successfully navigate around it.

Women’s Tax Resistance League @ Mazars
Mar 7 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

This event marks the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, when some women got the vote, and also celebrates International Women’s Day 2018.

The Women’s Tax Resistance League was part of the suffrage movement, campaigning on the subject of tax.

Helen Thornley, Technical Officer of the Association of Taxation Technicians, will give her talk based on her study of the League’s archives at the London School of Economics.

This event is open to all (and men are welcome too). Registration is from 5.30pm and the talk will begin promptly at 6pm. Refreshments will be available after the talk, kindly provided by Mazars UK.

Finding Your Voice @ Macfarlanes LLP
Mar 14 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to speak up in a meeting, or give a presentation, but been afraid your voice would not be heard?
Wendy Bradley draws on her experiences as a drama teacher and as an HMRC speaker to help us find our voice.

Be prepared to take your shoes off, stand your ground and speak out in this interactive session. There may be howling and growling during the evening but you will leave equipped with some techniques to make your voice heard.

Registration will be from 5.30pm with a prompt start for the session at 6pm.

Numbers will be limited to 24 to make the most of the interactive nature of this event. Younger women are particularly encouraged to attend, but all are welcome.

Projecting yourself with confidence @ Grant Thornton
Apr 17 @ 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Paula Ruffell, a Senior Manager at Grant Thornton has 12 years’ experience in tax and five years’ experience coaching. Paula will explore what confidence looks like and how you can rise to new challenges, seize opportunities, deal with difficult situations, and take responsibility if and when things go awry. We will also explore how confidence differs from your self-esteem and self-worth. Through some practical but deep exercises, you will learn to see yourself in a completely new light and understand how unshakeable confidence really comes from within.

This is one of our Masterclass series, aimed at increasing the confidence of women working in all areas of tax. We would particularly encourage younger women to attend, but the session is open to all.

Registration will be from 5.30pm with the talk beginning at 6pm. Networking with drinks and refreshments will follow afterwards.
